First we thought the Internet is a vast land of bytes, but now it seems, it is actually a galaxy with planets orbiting around. Take Twitter for example, it goes whole circle in its many uses and lends its versatility to its user. We have already gone over the awesomeness in being able to speak to our favorite brands and skip...
Kasab gone, Tweets continue

November 21, 2012, Ajmal Kasab hanged at 7.30am in Pune’s Yerwada Jail. It is said justice delayed is justice denied. But if I look at Kasab’s hanging after a good four years, I feel justice has been delivered. Though it doesn’t wash away the horrific memories of 26/11 from our minds, the news brings a bit of relief to people, especially to the survivors. While there was no minute to minute coverage of this news (and I am glad about that), one place that always keeps buzzing was, well, buzzing, even this time around. Social media experienced a wave of happiness, almost as if it was a personal achievement, a target met, for each of us. Here is a glimpse of the data Reputome revealed to me: With 18720 mentions, Twitter enjoyed the...

By now everyone from Congo to Timbaktu probably knows that President Obama, is well, still President. Yes he’s won. Re-elected. But this is not about that. He’s won. The whole world knows. It doesn’t matter if people like him or not. It doesn’t matter if the world will be a better place or not. It doesn’t matter if I like him or not. Although I do find him handsome. This is about what was the first thing President Obama did after winning the election. Let me give you a hint, in 140 characters. “This happened because of you. Thank you.” Barrack Obama’s first words to the nation but read by the whole world. And these words were spoken…on Twitter. Maybe the heading of this post is a little far-fetched but you do get the...
How big is the influence of social media...

Do you know way back in 2008, Barack Obama had strategically created an effective campaign on the web and was dubbed ‘the first Internet president’? Any guesses on what was the number of Facebook and Twitter users back then? Well it was only around 100 million. Twitter users were just 1 million. The reach of social media has expanded since then, and how! Today there are up to 955 million Facebook and 500 million Twitter users. Last week, during the peak of U.S election campaign I dug out the following data. Rather interesting… President Obama has more than 28 million supporters on Facebook. 20 million followers on Twitter with 29 Tweets per day. And around 227 000 subscribers on YouTube. Whereas, Romney had only 7 million...
Twitter Bird gets a Makeover
posted by Ibea
Good morning my dear Twitterers! I have something super exciting to share with you today. Our favorite bird in the social media space, Twitter’s trademark – the little blue bird, has got a makeover. Personally, I find makeovers exciting and an overall happy experience. I remember my last makeover (a funky haircut), which not only made me look smarter, but strangely also made my head buzz with even more ideas. It was a fantastic phase of my life. Okay, now coming back to the new Twitter bird. I looked closely at it and spotted the following changes, (I bet many of you haven’t noticed these till now, until you too carefully observed it). • Sleeker design that drops one feather (giving it a more stylish touch, a less bulky...
