The Dark Knight Rises Across Social Media Platforms
Did you know the first movie trailer came from the Loews Cinemas company in 1913 for a film called The Pleasure Seekers? We may have not been around back then, but in our times we have witnessed some amazing movie trailers and have gone to watch a film purely on the basis of that. Trailers have since a long time, been an integral part of marketing and promoting movies. I get excited by film posters too, and trust me, even those if really appealing can make me go, catch a film.
Move over billboards, publications and trailers. Times have changed. So have movie promotions and marketing.
Movie promotions is no more only about catching attention for a few seconds or minutes just a few days before the movie releases, but it is more about allowing the film to grow on the audience, much before its release. Often even months.
The Dark Knight Rises, is a perfect case in point at this time. I have been following the ways in which this eagerly anticipated film is being promoted via social media. The movie seems to have risen. Literally. Across all social media platforms. Remember, all that the official site launched had a black screen and a cryptic audio file? That was something that got us hooked instantly.
The movie has been the trending topic on Google, YouTube and Twitter. The blogosphere is buzzing with discussion and excitement around the trailer. Everybody is talking about it, but no one has seen it yet. Wow! Now that is the magic of social media in film promotions. It gets you involved.
Did you notice the amount of people sharing of the video through Facebook and Reddit?

So, what do you think of this kind of ellaborate effort for a movie promotion? If you ask me, I am left totally impressed. A large chunk, or perhaps the entire chunk of the film viewing audience has a social media account, so it makes perfect sense to launch the movie there.
Guys, so aren’t we all set to catch this one over the weekend? I am buzzing out and will catch you after watching the film. I can’t wait to grab my popcorn and watch this one.
