G+ brand page: How good art thou?
What a dichotomy this Google thing is! While the internet search giant continuously bats privacy regulation issues, users of Google, individuals and businesses alike, believe Google can do no wrong. And I’m beginning to think they’re right! Coz G+ is the new magician on the digital block, spinning one marvel after another.
A direct benefit of its interoperability with Google’s other properties, G+ first wowed one and all with its features — Seamless YouTube video integration. Real-time photo sharing via Google Photos. Music library streaming via Google Music. Document sharing. Connections via Google Talk. And Circles! How can we forget Circles!
The next best thing from the G+ stable, after all that, has been brand pages. Yes, all companies are eyeing Google+ brand pages. Some even created their brand pages on the platform. And then Google, not yet ready with official brand pages, botched it all up by suspending all profiles save Ford Motor Company’s page – for beta testing.
And yet, Google can do no wrong… The last few weeks have seen a 33 percent spike in placement of the new Google +1 button, going by the front pages of the Web’s 10,000 largest sites. What is it that G+ is weaving?
Why G+ brand pages?
Despite Google+ having only around 20 million users as against Facebook’s 700 million, the hype around G+ brand pages is unprecedented. The biggest thing that sweeps the stakes in its favour is Google’s monopoly in web search.
You see, this is how it works. The +1s on links and content get factored into Google’s search algorithms — and your profile. And since this is Google’s own product, needless to say social tick marks through the +1 Button will be preferred over those coming from Twitter, Facebook and social bookmarking. The impact on organic search results is obvious — web pages generating many +1′s will populate earlier on Google search results than websites that do not.
Digitally informed companies are already working on their content, so they can effectively use G+ features like Hangout and Circles to carry specific content they want their consumers to read… So, it’s time now for you to focus on your content, folks! Coz real-time multimedia content sharing and discovery is what Google is looking at more than ever. And given their history with AdSense and AdWords, you know what you’re going to get…
With this, my dear intelligentsia, ibea is signing off, until my next buzzzz…
